Digital Surrey & Mobile Evolution

A few weeks ago I attended my very first Digital Surrey event; having never been before I didn’t really know what to expect, but having attended another networking event the night before I figured….how bad could it be?!

I heard about Digital Surrey through some contacts that I met at the CIM Surrey event earlier in the month;  and was particularly interested to learn that each month there is a featured speaker and presentation on a digital related topic (an area that I’m hugely passionate about and always keen to learn more).

After arriving at the very impressive Surrey Sports Park I couldn’t help but watch with a mixture of excitement and apprehension at the hive of activity as people eagerly registered and collected their ticket for a free drink….something I vowed to myself that I will make better use of next time, before the main event started.

I’d barely decided what to drink (I played it safe with a Lemonade; after-all I was driving) when I noticed Nicky Kriel (who gave a fantastic presentation at the CIMSurrey event); at least there was one friendly face, not that I needed to worry everyone I met was incredibly friendly, extremely passionate about the Digital World and really great fun to chat with.

The highlight of the evening was a talk by Jon Bishop (@Jonin60seconds) about how mobile technology is changing the world, and focused on particular on how this applies in South Africa. Truly fascinating (and in some cases very scary). If you are interested, you can find a link to Jon’s presentation here.

All in all the event was a blast and I had a ball; got to meet some really fantastic people.

I can’t wait for the next event; which as luck would have it is tomorrow night! Stay tuned for the next instalment.
